Violent Video Games?

Video games have been around for decades and include a plethora of game types and platforms. However, they have come under the scanner for potentially creating violent responses in children and teenagers. But how many have actually considered the base of this argument? How much of it is actually true?

Almost all video games are a competition or are based on meeting a time crunch. They are about which player can score more points than the other or who can finish the game in the least amount of time. That is how their creators intended them to be. They were made to enhance the players skills and improve upon other abilities simultaneously. Video games push players to use their mental and physical capabilities to beat the machine, or each other, in a battle of time and skill management. In all classic video games, the game challenges the player's timing, reflex, tact and strategy - and builds their ability to perform under pressure; usually a time crunch or deadline of some sort.

In player vs. player games, the outcome of the game is decided by who responds sooner and acts in the most appropriate way to attack, defend or counter-attack as to gain an advantage. Some players adopt a tactical and calculated approach, while many other find a moves that the easiest to perform and begin a continuous barrage of attack which undoubtedly always leads to their downfall.
Strategy games were created with the aim to invoke a player's planning and evasive tendencies. They sharpen your mind and reduce decision making time while improving reaction time.

The point argued is that such games are violent. They aren't! Children don't play video games from the day they are born. They learn, they see, they listen and absorb what they can from around them. This is what makes up the world surrounding their existence. When the child grows enough to handle a game controller; they act upon what they've absorbed and their inner self is presented on screen in plain sight. Parents should let the child choose what sort of games he or she wants to play. They need to pay attention or even partake in the game with their child or children. This will let them gauge what the child is focused on. Do they pick competitive racing or fighting games? Or do they choose a strategy game which involves team work and dependence on the performance of others in times of need. If so, are they focused on the goal at hand or on destroying everything in sight?

Here, it is the parents who are responsible and need to  realize their child's or children's thought patterns and counter actions thereof. Failure to note the difference is what qualifies as ignorance in upbringing. It's the little things that make a big difference later on.

A game is played how the player chooses to play it. An angry child will prefer a game with guns so he or she can shoot at everything to glory deriving pleasure from dissipating their anger among virtual beings. Games like Contra or Quake are mission oriented. They provide you an arsenal to attack and defend yourself but the game is ultimately based on accomplishing a goal - complete the level as soon as you can with minimum fuss. Here, the player can choose to evade game opponents and stealthily complete levels taking down enemies only when they stand in their way. The game can be played several different ways. The player decides how they want to go about it. It's more than a game; it's a gauge of discipline and choice.

Not to stereotype any players or games, but some games actually let you gauge what sort of person the player is. Arkanoid, Tetris and even Pinball tend to be played by those looking to exceed their own limitations -  those who push themselves to be better than they used to be. Similarly, Super Mario Brothers or games of such genre show a curiosity, a perseverance within the player to reach their goal, their prize. Some may even consider people to be addicts. However, there's a fine line between being committed to oneself to see a goal through within a reasonable amount of time and being addicted.

Then there are the games created later by those you could safely say are in need of a psychological consult or even mental help. "Shoot as many as you can" or "shoot as much as you can" are simply not rules. They seem easy enough at first but then you realize that they are mindless violence oriented games with a single track to follow. What's more; they don't last because of that aspect. They don't bring anything else to the table or offer anything else to benefit the player. They certainly don't engage players beyond a single parameter. This is the major difference between those sort of games and games like Call Of Duty or Commandos. These are hot sellers because they actively involve the player and strengthen several skill sets which are basically required to survive. They inculcate responsibility, strategy, planning, tact, team work and sacrifice. They require quick thinking and decision making and utilize considerable reserves of the players memory. They engage the mind and body of the player in ways that few other games can.

Thus, it's wrong to blame video games for the violent tendencies of children. Video games are merely an outlet which lets you see what a child would do given the power and abilities that video games offer in a virtual world. Of course, this does not translate literally to their actions in the real world but there are some who cannot process the difference. There are some who will have certain feelings triggered by events in the real world which cause them to react upon the real world as they would in the game.

As for violent video games; they don't exist! The ones that are simply focus on a singular path of violence never make it to the mainstream. There is always a choice and there are those who choose.

Winter Setting

Once in a while
a rarity is presented.
A winter's day so still.
It almost seems enchanted.

No movement whatsoever.
Not a bird. Not a leaf of any tree.
The sun quietly shines while the winds rest;
letting not a hint of breeze free.

But the world moves on, unheard;
leaving no sign; no trace.
With everything so still;
only my thoughts race.

Four Wheel Drive

Four wheel drive is the best thing to happen to mobility. It is!

It's good enough having all feet firmly on the ground they say; but isn't it better if one wheel can get the other wheel's power when it needs it the most? Doesn't matter if it's needed up front or at the back; the point is to get out of trouble without having a reason to panic. That means everything when the drive is all that matters. You can safely depend on any one wheel to get the other three out of trouble.

No one likes a rickshaw. It's okay if you have to commute a short distance, but you wouldn't wanna spend time in one nor have one yourself. The three-wheeled contraption it is - unstable when things get winding and a sudden stop can lead to one or more adverse situations in a hurry. No one likes a third wheel; not for too long anyway.

Four wheel drive is an awesome feeling. The sharing and caring in the mix is something worth experiencing; worth having more than anything else. Everyone wants to have something like that sometime in their life. The feeling of independence experienced when all four are in it together makes even the most daunting journeys seem more than worthwhile. Every trip is an experience. Besides, you can always switch to two wheel drive when things are calm and let the front wheels and the rear wheels be themselves. The trick is being apart together and then coming together at the touch of a button. Nothing beats that!

Reason being..

They say everything happens for a reason.. Yeah, I believe that. What sense would life make otherwise? The root of every being's existence lies in it's reason to exist, doesn't it?

In matters considered personal; where is reason half the time. Not everything has its reason stemming from what is practical, what must be done. There is reason in nonsensical humor and craved company. Not because you want it or need it but just because, at that point of time, it feels right. Not everything has to make sense.

And whatever happened to falling in love, overcoming come what may and love at first sight? Has the world become so practical minded that one must think before feeling? I'm sorry, but I find that impossible to even believe possible. It used to be said that "love is all you need" but now people are saying that "hugs don't pay the bills"..

Go on, spend you life being practical. Work hard. Pay the bills. Have a robotic relationship.

While everyone out there is on the lookout for someone with a firm footing to make into their soon-to-be better half; someone out there will see me, me anxiously waiting for their hand to hold so I can then climb and get a foothold. Not everything works the same way. I'll do what I have to do; work hard and prepare for the bills. Then we can run away and have what we wanted!

Fishing

There comes a time in one's life sometimes where everything just seems like it's come to a standstill.

It seems like there is little hope except to carry on doing what you're doing while keeping an eye open for any opportunity that may show itself. So there you are, climbing that mountain with one hand holding on tightly to the fishing rod that's cast into the lake below, just in case you feel a tug. And then the day bids farewell and the moon creeps out into the darkening skyline. Rest, some much needed stillness is what it brings about. No shut-eye talk here, there's none of that; you're too mentally active to do something as dormant as sleep. Yes, it's essential, but one side of your brain and you heart beg to differ.

It's at times like these that your mind wanders and makes you relive old memories and create future scenarios in your mind all at once. Those moments make you realise things about yourself. These things may not seem useful at all, but they can be quite eye-opening. You wonder why you hold onto one person so dearly in your heart and that one job opportunity that you stuck you everything into. Not  just a foot in the door, but the barge in - lock door - swallow key routine that Thomas the cat has so often demonstrated. Of course, it doesn't always lead you to the point you want to be at; more often than not, you're left looking for something to break the door down and get the hell out. The key usually lies within you; that was scarily literal in Tom's case! You have four limbs - stick them in different doors and wait for a pull on one of them. If you like the place, stay; else you're gonna have to break the three other doors down just to find what you're looking for. But then there is a lesson, as always, and that is life telling you to not put all your eggs in one basket. It may be an age-old cliché but not many take heed to them now do they.

And that's when you find yourself climbing up this mountain of a life, while still fishing from the lake you grow so fondly accustomed to.

The Castle of Life

The knight rode on astride his steed
glistening in the moonlight
Through forests and valleys he rode on through
towards the castle visible in distant sight

His helmet was heavy, his chain mail too
And though he kept them on, his sword wasn't drawn
Steadily he rode on to the distant castle
riding all night till the break of dawn

He was drawn to the castle, not unlike magic
twas a place in which he never imagined to be
Knowing deep inside, the journey was worth
His ending would be happy; his soul, free

On approaching the castle he saw a moat
with waters clear and nothing concealed
He circled the massive structure around
until a small window his princess revealed

He caught her eye and their eyes met
for just a brief second till she looked away
He was mesmerised, in trouble; he knew it!
Her thoughts would now rule his every day

A drawbridge of glass lay carelessly retracted
His dreams and eternal happiness were at stake
On through he knew he needed to further venture
if only his princess would wish to partake

Under the moon and with howls from the darkness
Silently, around the castle he rode that night
Ne'er stopping for one breath, lest he should
be forced to give up what he felt his right

For until then, he had ridden alone
He knew not truth, and swore this would stop
His belief was all he had, and hope
that the princess would once more the drawbridge drop

Draw

Somethings you expect to stay for a while; you expect them to always be there. Then suddenly, you enter solitude, if only for a brief period, and you see all the things that matter. And then, without any possible warning or substantial explanation, it all changes. Your deepest dreams are all that remain, and your close company. People, things and beliefs are wiped off in a matter of minutes. No, this is no clean slate, but it helps to know that you can erase some things. The marks remain, and you don't have time go get a soaked rag to really clean that slate, not now. You have too much to draw. Put your heart in it. Everything will flow as you draw. That's what it's about.

Twist of Fate

They were meant to be together.. Ever since their creation, the thought of them being together brought smiles to faces of those who truly cared.

Yes, he was very powerful and had a lot of potential, but the one he was with was just not good enough to let him explore his extensive abilities. But he didn't know that.. He didn't realise that all they did together was smoke and drink without really getting anywhere quickly. She took her time adjusting herself to suit his pace and he couldn't help being himself. There was so much he had to offer and all she could do was have her hands full with him everytime..

But now, the higher powers sought to change his fate. They knew what he was capable of and great things lay ahead if they could pull of this match. And pull it off they did! With his new girl, he now drinks less and carries himself much better, much faster. It's made a world of a difference, and I for one am glad they were finally mated!

How I disliked that old Mercedes 5-speed automatic box paired to the biturbo V12 that is the 65 AMG. It so deserved that 7-speed AMG SpeedShift transmission. The new SL65 is an impeccable work of automotive and engineering art!

If I was God..

..I would abolish religion and annihilate the so-called seers, prophets and priests. They, who spread lies to the masses and gain followers blinded from their own spineless nature. If a "God" demands your attention, attendance and action against a fellow living being, human or otherwise, that is no God, far from it; they are just vermin. A real God would make sure you are punished for intentionally causing harm or hurt to someone. If I was God, I would deputize the true of heart; those few with the courage to stand up for what is right. Oh the powers the truth would bring you. A Godsend; well, of course!

People dismiss love as non-existent because they fail to find it in its true form. Love doesn't walk away, hide or let go; people do. They have only themselves to blame if they didn't look or try hard enough. Look and you shall see. Seek and you shall find. Wander and you shall soon be lost; although it may appear you have found a place of many, do not fail to realize that they are a whole generation of lost souls who can seem like an established city. Far from it!

And it's not just about love; those who destroy are incapable of appreciating creativity - the essential aspect of life. I pity those in power bowing to stones and random animals and turning around only to spit on their planet and stone a defenseless animal. If your power lies in capitalizing on another's weakness, you are not strong in any sense. How these pathetic people mistake advantage for power is beyond me.

When you have time, laugh not at others for realizing their mistakes, laugh at yourselves for not being smart enough to spend time finding your own shortcomings. Everyone is unique in their own way, and you cannot enforce your specialties onto another for the mere reason of being offspring. Get real!

It is true what Luther said then, "Hell is empty; the devils are all here...” No doubt masquerading as religious leaders and separatist politicians then. Word!

Of Apples and Oranges..

A lot of people liken various things to various other things, either to make them easier to understand or to make them easier to relate to for certain people. Of the many examples, I was inspired during a conversation with someone very close to me to actually compare chili peppers to Porsche cars. Yes, all chili peppers look the same to the untrained eye, so to do many Porsche car models. Hence, in my mind, this was the ideal way to illustrate how so very different they are from each other, being so closely related.

And I put this effort in one day after the demise of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, a man who took forward a design that decades later still remains barely altered. This is more of a jest than a tribute, but I remain humbled at the very mention of Porsche AG and the collective engineering efforts of all their engineering partners. Respect.

Oh for the dark reality..

Like the darkest shadow cast
by the seemingly greenest tree..
There is the pain in your eyes
that somehow only I can see..

Your Superhero

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, so said Gandhi. But what do you do in a world blind not because they can't see, but because they choose not to. Where are we headed? In cases of a simple ignorant majority, where does the one seer stand? Dismissed. Walked over. And no soon, forgotten.

I wanna be your superhero. Righting the smallest of wrongs, in the rightest of wrong ways. No, I may not be able to rescue innocent people from a burning building in time; I may not be able to prevent a flood of water from overpowering our society. I will stand not against Mother Nature, but against this growing uncaring nature of people. The innocent shall be rescued, saved from the fate that the blind, uncaring robots of society deliver today, and everyday they stay blind. The little puppies, the old wounded dog, the bird in her nest with fresh eggs, all targets of the wretched spawns of ignorant copulating machines that have surfaced like slag from a refinery, only to stand in the way of the sun shining for the good few. Innocence isn't lost, it is suppressed; sometimes not by the soul, but by other daemons that lurk among us, wearing the face of society, with a voice louder than any action they could ever produce.

So here I stand, wishing, waiting. If only I could burn the culprits with my thoughts, or stop time only to enjoy their dismemberment; it would be my fuel. Watching the disbelief of the face of the innocent as I commit what they would never do even if they wanted to, because their innocence wouldn't allow it. If the sick of mind roam free, why can't the watchers. I choose to be one, yet I fear what may happen on account of my actions for good. Evil roams in packs, it's everywhere, and sometimes good can only stand and endure that slow, helpless feeling of heartbreak. I will keep trying, in my own little ways. For I know any idiot can break stuff; it takes love, effort and patience to create something worthwhile.

An eye for a cracked skull then, that's how I would work. If only...

A Message by George Carlin

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

~ George Carlin.

The Dog And The Bone

I watched and learned, but I did not put it into practice. In the end the persistent dog gets the bone.. The good lie in decay, and enter the afterlife empty-handed..

But that's what it seems like at first. The bone is a prize, to be won, not borrowed. I may have observed that, but I hope, for my sake, that it's true..

I want my bone to find me, and come to me; impossible as it may seem..

What the Lord giveth

I said you were the most beautiful. I believed that, and still do. With your eyes bright as the sun, and eyebrows of flame, you moved my soul to cherish your presence.

Then you left, and there was another. I called her fat. She looked like her elder sister, but after a bit of liposuction. She didn't have the grace you did. But then, on the inside, she was more forgiving, more caring and gave me my space. I appreciate that, and I appreciate her now for what she is.

What the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. But when He returns, you can expect only better. Goodbye E60, welcome F10. The legend that is the BMW M5. The Lord taketh the 507bhp V10, and the Lord giveth the 560bhp twin-turbo V8!

And my smile has returned to it's correct position.

The One

You look around, there are so many! I scream out your name when I see you fly by me on the road. "Ferrari" everyone yells! And I'm the idiot because I'm the one who's pointing while yelling "458! 458!!". No. I know.

I love the GT2 RS. Then I love the Zonda, then the Zonda F, then the Zonda Clubsport, the the Zonda R.. I love em all. And then they disappear. Then I look for practicality, and I love the CTS-V, and the GT-R, and the 911 Turbo S *scratch* Panamera Turbo S *scratch* Panamera diesel!

I consider the Evoque, the new X3 30d, the Dacia Duster... Evolution. New areas of choice I would never look at before. The 2012 Nano.. New wine in an old bottle.

And then, to put all that chaos in perspective, and realise what I forgot about all this while. There was only one. There is only one. I get distracted easily when you're not around. It will always be you.

When it comes to me making the ultimate choice. It will always be the H1 Alpha. It will always be YOU!
